Dorona restaurant permanently closing in Naples

Dorona restaurant in Naples is permanently closing this week after operating for more than seven years in The Gateway of Naples retail center next to Naples High School. Dorona’s last day is May 16. When the modern Italian steakhouse launched in January 2018, it was the third Naples restaurant concept from Chef Fabrizio and Ingrid Aielli, the local husband-and-wife team behind Sea Salt, Barbatella, Grappino and Bakery At Grappino, all local dining favorites that remain open in Naples. In an email to loyal guests this week, Aielli Group announced it is terminating Dorona's lease at 2110 Tamiami Trail N., a longtime restaurant end space that previously was home to TGI Friday’s and Midtown Kitchen & Bar. “After many memorable meals, shared celebrations and unforgettable evenings, the time has come for us to say goodbye,” the email reads in part.

Neighborhood Health Clinic unveils expanded medication room

Neighborhood Health Clinic opened its expanded Medication Room at its location near Goodlette-Frank Road and Central Avenue in Naples. The 1,850-square-foot space was constructed for $500,000. Equipped with updated technology and increased storage capacity, the expanded space allows for a larger inventory of nonnarcotic formulary medications. This enables the nonprofit clinic to fill prescriptions immediately, helping to ensure compliance and minimizing delays in treatment, officials said. In 2024, the clinic distributed $6.5 million in retail value of medications in partnerships with Americares, Direct Relief, Dispensary of Hope and others. The expansion also consolidates medication dispensary operations into one dedicated space, improving volunteer coordination, volunteer physician consultations and direct patient support. The nonprofit delivers medical care to low-income, working but uninsured Collier County adults using a professional volunteer staff, and is funded by private philanthropy.

Fort Myers-based Alico Inc. reports $111.4M net loss in Q2

Fort Myers-based Alico Inc. reported a net loss of $111.4 million attributable to common stockholders in its second quarter, according to an earnings report. Company officials said the increase in net loss from $15.8 million in the same period in 2024 was partially due to the result of approximately $119.3 million of accelerated depreciation on the company's citrus trees because of the announcement of its strategic transformation to a diversified land company and decision to wind down citrus operations. The company posted $17.98 million in revenue, a 0.7% year-over-year decrease. The company completed its last major citrus harvest in April. Alico will conduct a final harvest on the majority of the 3,783 acres of remaining operational citrus groves in fiscal year 2026 and will have negotiated agreements to lease another 5,250 acres of different groves to third-party citrus growers next season.

SBA offers disaster relief to SWFL small businesses affected by drought

The U.S. Small Business Administration announced the availability of low interest federal disaster loans to small businesses and private nonprofit organizations in Florida that sustained economic losses caused by the drought beginning Feb. 11. The disaster declaration covers the primary counties of Glades, Hendry, Martin and Palm Beach, and the adjacent counties of Broward, Charlotte, Collier, DeSoto, Highlands, Lee, Okeechobee and St. Lucie. The SBA cannot provide disaster loans to agricultural producers, farmers or ranchers, except for aquaculture enterprises. Disaster loans are available for working capital needs caused by the disaster, even if the small business or private nonprofit did not suffer any physical damage. The loans may be used to pay fixed debts, payroll, accounts payable and other bills not paid due to the disaster. The loan amount can be up to $2 million with interest rates as low as 4% for small businesses and 3.625% for private nonprofits, with terms up to 30 years.
