OPEN FOR BUSINESS

Guru Indian Bistro, a lovely sit-down eatery with dark wood floors and darker plush leather dining chairs, welcomed its first customers this month at Bonita Springs’ Prado center (which has become a food hotspot with popular eateries like El Basque, Jimmy P’s Charred and Naples Coastal Kitchen). Patrons can expect all the Subcontinent’s favorites from samosas and naan to tandoori chicken and lamb vindaloo.

Founders Square keeps getting better and better for the communities near it on Collier and Immokalee: Havana Libre Cuban Cuisine just joined the lineup. The mom-and-pop eatery is doubling the size of its original location in Golden Gate City, and this outpost also has a full bar and outdoor dining.

Tony’s NY Pizza, an independent Naples-based pizzeria, opened its third location in the original home of The Crust in The Pavilion.

ON THE HORIZON

Winds of change are sweeping through the Secret Garden-esque former home of the Old Naples Pub. Details are mum on the new restaurant being planned, but the Naples Design Review Board approved façade changes—out with the yellow (and therefore the charming old vines), and in with a distinctly Floridian shade of pink.

KUDOS

Join Naples’ legendary Campiello in toasting 25 years of success from its glamorous perch on Third Street South. To honor the milestone, the restaurant is bringing back dishes from the past with a special a la carte anniversary menu the whole month of September (available alongside the regular menu). Its swanky Club Room also has a few wine dinners on the docket, including a tour de force of California on Friday, September 13, and France on Tuesday, October 15.

Congrats are also in order to chef Bob Boye’s small plate independent eatery in Fort Myers, Liberty, which is celebrating its 5th anniversary. Until August 31, there is a menu just for the occasion that had us at “slowwwww roasted pork belly” with shishitos and marconas and not one but two mystery plates.

We’re very excited to reveal Brandie Dixon is back at Naples Wine Collection and The Cave in a leadership role. The young wine connoisseur helped her parents (Naples Winter Wine Festival lifetime trustees Jim and Laura Dixon) open the wine shop, bar and bistro years ago and set it on the path to becoming the much-lauded epicurean hub it is now.

SUMMER SPECIALS

Take full advantage of Sizzle Dining’s 20 days of dining deals September 5-25 to eat your way through a good chunk of the prix-fixe menus at 116 participating restaurants throughout the whole of Southwest Florida (including its further flung reaches like Babcock Ranch, Isles of Capri and Punta Gorda). It’s essentially a three-week-long restaurant week, plus $1 from the sale of each meal purchased is donated to Blessings in a Backpack. New this year, Sizzle has coordinated six special brunch events on top of the regular menus on offer.

Speaking of brunch, Bar Tulia Mercato is spicing up Saturdays this summer, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a swoonworthy menu (think: frittatas with house-made sausage and two cheeses and nutella-caramelized banana Belgian waffles) and bottomless boozy add-ons that include drinks like espresso martinis, frosé and Aperol spritzes.
